Braces
Dental braces are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help position them with regard to a person's bite, while also aiming to improve dental health. Braces also fix gaps.
Why do people get braces?
A dentist usually recommends braces to improve a patient's "orofacial" appearance. Through orthodontic treatment, problems like crooked or crowded teeth, overbites or underbites, incorrect jaw position and disorders of the jaw joints are corrected. If left untreated, these problems can result in tooth decay, gum disease, headaches and earaches, as well as speaking, biting or chewing problems.
5 Benefits of Dental Braces
- Prevention of Gum Diseases and Tooth Decay.
- Aid Proper Digestion.
- Prevention of Bone Erosion.
- Great Smile and Confidence Booster.
- Correction of Disproportionate Teeth and Speech Improvement.
What is a good age to get braces?
- A general rule of thumb is your kids should look at getting braces between the ages of 9 and 14. Usually, this is before they've gone through puberty. If they've already gone through it, this means it'll be harder to adjust their jaw and/or teeth, as they've already settled into their post-puberty positions.
How long do braces on teeth last
Most patients will need to wear fixed braces for around 18 to 24 months. For problems that are harder to correct, or for our older patients, treatment may take up to three years. If you have less severe issues or are a good candidate for clear aligners like Invisalign, treatment may take as little as 6 to 12 months.
What colour is best for braces?
Choose light blue, bronze, dark purple or subdued reds and pinks to complement lighter skin tones. Choose darker colours to make your teeth appear whiter. Watch out for lighter colours that could make your teeth look more yellow. Consider colours that complement or match your eyes.
